The Late Movie: Hugh Laurie

My husband is a House fan. He didn’t believe me when I told him Hugh Laurie was a British comedian. I had to show him some clips. Laurie had quite a career at the BBC with Stephen Fry and the series A Bit of Fry & Laurie, Blackadder, and Jeeves and Wooster. Then he took America by storm as a dramatic actor with no hint of a foreign accent -at least on the set of House. Here’s some of his earlier work.

Your Name, Sir

A classic skit from A Bit of Fry & Laurie.
*

Slightly Mad

In this clip from the second season of A Bit of Fry & Laurie, Laurie goes to see a psychiatrist. This could be House if it weren’t for the British accent. And the laughter.
*

Hey Jude

This is a case of “fun with technology” when the availability of such effects was not as widespread as today.
*

All Man, with a Bit of Animal

With Rowan Atkinson on the series Blackadder.
*

I Do Apologize

From the series Jeeves and Wooster.
*

Blooper Reel

Fry & Laurie step back to 1973 for this retroactive “blooper reel.”
*

Song for America

Laurie tries out his Yankee accent in this song from the series A Bit of Fry & Laurie.
*

Killer Queen

A musical compilation of Hugh Laurie in drag clips.
*

Once Again, He’s Not American

A*
